How To Be Egoless – 3 Main Ideas

  • Choosing an ego-free environment: According to James Clear, the author of Atomic Habit. He stated that – We people usually Do things not because of what we are but where we are. If you stay in a friend circle circled by a mindset of neuroticism or egocentric philosophies then you will gradually become like them. Therefore choose an environment that teaches you to on how to direct your emotions in a better way and where you can contribute as well.
  • Meditation and mindfulness aids ego: At its core, the ego is a falsification of reality. What meditation and mindfulness help us do, is helping us see things as they truly are, without judgement or attachment. I’ve found that practising quiet moments of introspection is one of the best ways to see things clearly and to avoid the urges of giving in to the ego.
  • Choose Compassion and gratitude: Putting yourself in other people’s shoes, seeing things from their perspective and practising gratitude have been described by many famous minds as another method to eradicate the ego. Following this can be as easy as taking 5 minutes in the evening to list 3 things that you are grateful for today. Surprisingly, I’ve also found that the best gift we can give others is to do and work on things that that we truly love. I had previously confused this with ego when self-love and doing what we love is the exact opposite – living without ego. A great quote on this from the Dalai Lama:
