When we go through the process of neuroplasticity. we are exposed to a stimulus accurately with enough repetition and intensity to change and “Re-wire” brain function. This is the same process when you as a child learned to get your first ride on a bicycle. You did not learn it the right way but with enough practice, you re-wired your brain to do it.

Your brain talks with chemicals also known as neurotransmitters, these chemicals coordinate your mood and functions of your brain.

- Facilitating new Neural Connection — when we go through repetition it allows your brain to create new nueral connections between each other.
- Recovering Brain Injuries — Doctor always recommends someone who has gone from traumatic situation to get them what they like, to feed they what they enjoy. Actually, the Doctor is trying to rewire the pattern of the brain as was before.
- Develops Hippocampus — this part of your brain plays an important role in processing short and long term memory, it deals with memory.emotion and learning. Research shows that those who have experience neuroplasticity have a larger hippocampus than those who didn’t.
How do you rewire your brain?
Imagine your brain is like a forest, a deep forest where there is countless unexplored land. Just imagine what would happen if they remain unexplored.
seriously, that would be a huge waste of your potential, sadly this is what happening today. We have this massively powerful brain but we fail to teach it well.
So, now to make a path between the forest( your brain ) what would you do?
Of course, you need to cut the trees, This is called the “Exercise” in other words.
Now, after cutting all the tress, you finally created a path straight ahead and built a little house in there for yourself. Great work. Now, every day you cut trees and go back to your little hut to serve yourself with food and water, this process repeats. Every morning you go out to collect wood for fire and food, in other words, this is “Repetition”.Now, in other words, this whole process is “rewiring your Brain”.
The more You do a repetitive task the more the neural connection will be stronger between you are your action. The slightest stimulus can cause immediate response from your brain because that has eventually turned into a habit. This is how you can rewire your brain in a better way, use repetition and productive environment to help the brain grow and learn.
What is an example of neuroplasticity?
In London Taxi Drivers have to go through a difficult exam. Where They have to prepare to memorize all the Streets, location, and sites in London.
Interestingly, when researchers tool images of their Brain ( x-ray), they can literally see the new nueral connection.
This is the Pattern and wiring that the Taxi driver’s brain has installed while learning all the streets and corners of London. Therefore, it can clearly be concluded now that changing the way you think and act can change your brain in the same way.
How does repetition help to learn?
How repetition helps learning? This is the question when I asked myself when I was started to read a book called “the power of habits”.
now, I have found something very fascinating, that is worth sharing.
Nick Spitzer, A well know neuroscientist. Once concluded that if a nerve cell, a neuron has sustained activity over a prolonged period of time.
For example — A visual stimulus over a period of time or stressful stimulus over a period of time. Then the neurons can actually change the identity of these chemicals ( the neurotransmitters), that they make and release to signal other neurons.
Another Interesting research was done to identify the change in the signal of our brain.
here mice are allowed to run on a running wheel, the fascinating finding was that the mice really like to run on a running wheel, and would run for hours ( the would be equivalent to a marathon to a man)
And when they do that, in a nuclear in the midbrain, the pedunculopontine nucleus (PPN functions are arousal, attention, learning, reward, and voluntary limb movements and locomotion), 600 neurons lose acetylcholine(it is a neurotransmitter chemical which causes muscles to contract, activates pain responses).
And the same 600 neurons joined GABA ( the inhibitory neurotransmitter).
So, this is a remarkable experiment that shows the change in animal behavior. Hence, we can conclude that the environment around you can impact your nueral connections.
This experiment also concludes that “Learning a new skill” causes neurotransmitter switching as a process to the long term changes in the brain and increases activities in the hippocampus as well.
Neuroplaticity exercises –
1. Use repetition — Practicing daily the skill you want to master can build new neuron connections in your brain. In other words, it acts as a lubricant. Neuroplaticity exercises
2. Write Things Down — Writing down helps your brain in an even better way. writing things down can help our brains prioritize which we should focus on and act on at any given moment
3. Explain it to yourself — Use mind maps and charts to help your brain get a better vision of what you want to convey.
